Creating a virtual machine that uses distributed storage fails. How do I resolve this?

Cause

The distributed storage platform has not assigned the block storage gateway role to the host, preventing the host from accessing storage resources.

Solution

Log in to the distributed storage platform, go to the server management page, and assign the block storage gateway role to the host.
